How Live in Care Works

It can be an emotional and difficult time when you are wishing to arrange care for a relative or loved one. There can be many different options of care available to choose from and it is important that you make the right choice for your circumstances. We have had many years of experience in working in the care sector and you are very welcome to contact us to discuss the options available.

If you decide to choose live-in care, we can discuss with you to help decide the correct level of care needed. We do this by chatting with the person that care is required for along with the family or supporters. We would visit your home and do a professional assessment of what is needed and what we could cover. We are happy to include friends or family in this to ensure you are comfortable with what is decided.

Our rates can be discussed with you once we have completed a home assessment. Live-in care can often be a more affordable option than residential care as well as offering less disruption by enabling you to stay in your home. Funding for your support may be available from the local authority depending on your needs and financial circumstances. We can help you contact your local authority to find out about this if appropriate.

It is really important that we try to provide you with a carer who is compatible and most suited to match your needs and preferences. We will introduce you to the carer before setting up any agreement and ensure that you felt completely comfortable with them.

We would agree together the start date and have regular reviews of your care plan, the support you are receiving and whether it is enabling you to live as planned.

Practicalities of having a live-in carer

Your carer must have their own bedroom in your home and, where possible, be provided with a small television.

Your carer will need to take breaks during the day totalling 2 hours. She/he will also need to have adequate sleep. If you feel that you may require assistance during the night you should discuss this with a member of our team at your assessment meeting.

Our carers will work between 1 and 4 weeks before having a break of one week. This can be agreed at the assessment. We aim that you will have a maximum of 3 carers on rotation to be able to build a rapport with them and so that they are able to provide you with continuity of care.

When we visit you at your home to discuss your needs we will ensure that all parties are clear on the duties to be undertaken. This will ensure that both you and your carer are informed of the services offered and that needs are being met in the most appropriate way. By doing this we hope to ensure that you feel more in control of your life and of your choices.
